Iranian clerics dispute election results

Top clerics and seminary students in Iran’s holy city of Qom have come out against the results of the disputed June Iranian presidential election, which was declared a landslide victory for the hard-line incumbent. The Association of Teachers and Researchers of the Qom seminary school issued a statement on Saturday, saying that the election was skewed.

Report: Iran to prosecute satellite TV contributors

In another move to crack down on information flowing out of Iran, the Islamic Republic’s judicial chief has ordered the prosecution of individuals "who cooperate with satellite television programming providers," a reformist newspaper reported Sunday. “The individuals, who in any way collaborate with these networks or are entrenched in the nucleus of organizations which are active through Internet sites, must be adequately and properly subject to legal actions

Cemetery staff ‘working’ with Jackson family, police confirm

The first official indication that a family service for Michael Jackson will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery came from a Los Angeles police official Sunday. Forest Lawn officials were working with the Jackson family on their plans, which were part of “a package” of events Tuesday, said Jim McDonnell, assistant chief of staff of the Los Angeles Police Department. His comments, however, did not answer questions about where or when Jackson would be buried.

6 die in London high-rise fire

Six people were killed, including three children, when a fire broke out in a high-rise apartment building in south London on Friday afternoon, officials said. The fire started on the fourth floor at 4:30 p.m. then rapidly spread to the 11th floor, eventually engulfing 12 floors and gutting apartments along the way, fire officials said.
