Two NASA space probes near moon

Two NASA spacecrafts closed in on the moon Tuesday morning — one to send streaming video to Earth as it swings past the moon, the other to map the lunar surface from orbit, the space agency said. The two probes will begin collecting data after nearing the moon’s orbit about 5:30 a.m. ET.

WHO reports big jump in swine flu cases

The World Health Organization on Saturday reported 3,440 confirmed cases of swine flu in 29 countries, with 48 deaths from the sickness. The virus, also called H1N1, has spread as Australia reported its first confirmed case. On Friday there were 2,500 confirmed cases in 25 countries.

Supreme Court rules against networks on indecent speech

The Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that federal regulators have the authority to clamp down on broadcast TV networks that air isolated cases of profanity, known as "fleeting expletives." The 5-4 vote was a victory for Bush-era officials who pushed fines and sanctions when racy images and language reached the airwaves. Controversial words have been aired in scripted and unscripted instances on all the major over-the-air networks in the past six years, when the Federal Communications Commission began considering a stronger, no-tolerance policy

Ex-CIA chief: Obama risks national security

A former head of the CIA slammed President Obama on Sunday for releasing four Bush-era memos, saying the new president has compromised national security.
