Chris Pine charged with drink driving

Celebrated Hollywood actor Chris Pine is facing a charge for allegedly drink driving while in New Zealand.

Pine, 33, who is famous for playing Captain James T Kirk in Star Trek and Jack Ryan, will appear in the Ashburton District Court on Monday charged with driving with excess blood alcohol.

Pine has been in New Zealand filming Z for Zachariah alongside Australian-born star of The Wolf of Wall Street, Margot Robbie, and Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor, star of 12 Years A Slave.

He was stopped by police last month in Methven, Canterbury.

He allegedly failed an evidential blood test.

Locals in Banks Peninsula, where most of the Z for Zachariah filming took place, described Pine as friendly, approachable and sociable.

The cast and crew were in Methven last month to shoot scenes at Washpen Falls, near Windwhistle.

Pine was born in Los Angeles, California.

His parents are former actors. His father, Robert, appeared in the police drama Chips.

Pine was named as the new face of the Armani Code fragrance last month.

A representative for Giorgio Armani said Pine perfectly embodied the brand’s spirit with his “strong charisma and natural elegance”.

“Besides revealing great talent, high versatility and the right amount of irony on set, his magnetic charm makes him the ideal match for this fragrance.”
