Police Say Bennett has been minimally cooperative when questioned about Carnel Chamberlain

–    The body of missing 4-year-old Carnel Chamberlain was reportedly found under the patio of his family home and a family member told HLN’s Nancy Grace Thursday that they were told the boy’s body was burned.

Carnel Chamberlain’s mother, Jaimee Chamberlain, told Nancy Grace she last saw her son watching cartoons in the backroom of her home while was getting ready to leave for work at 3:45 p.m.

“When I left for work, he was in my bedroom and everything was fine,” Chamberlain said.

Carnel’s mother said she called her boyfriend that evening and he told her that her son was missing.

According to Chamberlain, her boyfriend, Anthony Michael Bennett, who has not been named a suspect, told her he last saw the 4-year-old boy when he was playing in the backyard pool at 9:30 p.m. that night.

Tribal police spokesperson Frank Cloutier told HLN that the Bennett has been “minimally cooperative” with the investigation and will not answer “the simplest of questions” about what happened that night including what time he last saw Carnel.

In an exclusive interview with Nancy Grace, Carnel’s mother said she started noticing “bruises” on Carnel’s backside about a week ago.

According to Carnel’s mother, Bennett recently “starting spanking” Carnel and “disciplining him” and “Carnel was upset about it,” she said.

Chamberlain said Bennett once spanked her son “because he didn’t clean his room.”

Chamberlain told Nancy Grace she tried telling Bennett “you don’t need to spank him, you’re able to talk to him, he understands right from wrong.”

When Carnel’s mother returned home from work to find her son missing, she said she noticed her “bathroom floor was wet.”

Chamberlain said when she asked Bennett for an explanation, he said “he was drawing a bath for when I got out of work, he said that he wasn’t paying attention…and it overflowed.”

When asked if she noticed anything else out of place in the home, Chamberlain said “there were brown stains on my carpet, and I noticed the stains were wet.”

“My first instinct was blood, when I stuck my hand in it…my hand was sticky, and when I smelled my hand, it smelled like cleaning products,” Chamberlain said.

“His story just doesn’t make sense,” Chamberlain told Nancy Grace. “This is the only guy Carnel felt comfortable enough to call stepdad.”
