Lorde the younger mingles with rock royalty

It’s a schoolboy dream – a big kiss on the cheek from one of the hottest females in the music business, Taylor Swift.

But it was reality for Vauxhall Primary schoolboy Angelo Yelich-O’Connor of Auckland.

Other than his achievements in the North Harbour Junior Cricket competition, where he plays wicketkeeper and occasionally top-scores for his club team, Angelo’s other claim to fame is that chart-topping Lorde is his big sister.

Kiwi and global pop sensation Lorde put in an appearance at Swift’s Auckland concert on Friday: the two having recently buried the hatchet of a short feud. They gave each other a hug and kiss on the cheek before Swift returned to perform on-stage.

Backstage Angelo got into the action and in what appears to be a selfie Swift is planting a smooch. He looks rather happy with himself.

Angelo has had a brief burst of fame before. The Australian music website FasterLouder interviewed Lorde at a recent dinner time at the family home.

As well as Lorde, also present was her 14-year-old sister India who, the article said, had a “way of commanding your attention even among a group more than adept on that front”.

India could be mistaken for the family celebrity, the article says.

“Angelo, the youngest, just tries to keep up – he knows that to get attention from his parents or sisters in this situation he needs to compete on volume and pace. He holds his own.”
