Against all odds: Keith Richards turns 70

Against improbable odds, rock ‘n’ roll’s Keith Richards is about to turn 70.

The Rolling Stones’ guitar maestro has lived a life that would have killed many people well before reaching the seven-decade milestone.

He has battled opiate addiction, still smokes like a chimney, and has set the bar for rock ‘n’ roll bad behaviour.
In 2006, shortly after the Rolling Stones toured New Zealand, Richards fell out of a coconut tree in Fiji and was flown to Auckland for brain surgery.

Despite the odds, Richards is alive and as well as can be expected.

The Rolling Stones are off on another tour, which will come to Auckland’s Mt Smart Stadium on April 5 next year.

According to Richards’ website, December 18 this year marks two milestones in his life – his 70th birthday and the 30th anniversary of his wedding to wife Patti.
