ZM’s Polly and Grant move to The Hits

Polly Gillespie and Grant Kereama are leaving their ZM breakfast show after more than two decades.

But they are not going far, as they will help launch a new breakfast show on a new radio station called The Hits, which replaces Classic Hits, on April 28.

The pair will be replaced by the ZM drive time lineup of Fletch, Vaughan and Megan, who only recently joined ZM from rival station The Edge.

The new format for The Hits will replace the existing Classic Hits model of having local breakfast shows for local areas.

The Gillespie and Kereama show will be broadcast nationwide.

The daytime shows from 9am-3pm would become local shows instead, The Radio Network (TRN), which owns ZM and The Hits, said.

TRN chief executive Jane Hastings said the new format would bring a greater level of entertainment for the modern adult listener and the new station was being aimed at an audience of 30 years and older.

The first interview booked for the first show was Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey.

Gillespie said it was a once-in-a-life time moment to be part of something great.

“We’ve got the chance to start a revolution,” she said.

“We’ve never done anything like this in our careers and it’s something we’re so excited to be part of.

“We’ve been working really hard to bring listeners everything they will love in a station – the best music, the biggest stars and the greatest experiences.”
