Why is Ashton Kutcher Suing the DMV?

How far will this lawsuit go? Will the state government be able to afford the actor the compensation he says he deserves?

Ashton Kutcher says the DMV Sabotaged his upcoming reality show and he wants compensation from the sate of California.

The details of the lawsuit by Kutcher’s Katalyst Media that gave us shows such as   “Punk’d” and “Beauty and the Geek” is claiming  it had a written contract with the California DMV back in 2010. It was to participate in a reality show that would “capture the variously humorous, emotional, dramatic, moving, humanizing and entertaining situations that arise on a daily basis” at the DMV.

Katalyst claims it hammered out a “formal written agreement” with the DMV to shoot footage in the summer and fall of 2011. The deal called for 4 initial episodes with an option of 6 more. What’s more the production company says it spent hundreds of thousands of dollars gearing up for the show only to receive a letter from the DMV trying to back out of the deal with no explanation or even an opportunity to arrange a meeting.

Now Katalyst wants at least $1.44 million to make things right. Or at least permission to go ahead with the show.
