The grandson of a British peer has become an unlikely rapping sensation.

David Palmer, rapping name Dave in Charge, has earned the title “the worst rapper of all time”.

The 25-year-old released the video to his “conscious rap”, Habitat, two weeks ago.

He has so far racked up a modest 70,000 views on YouTube, but has quickly captured the attention of critics.

On his website, Palmer says he uses “words and images skilfully to reveal the beauty and then the raw unstoppable power of nature” in the song.

Critics have described it as “embarrassing” and “cringeworthy”, and the Huffington Post pondered whether it was “the poshest rap video ever”.

Palmer’s clipped accent is a result of his upper class upbringing – his grandfather is a Liberal Democrat by the name of Lord Palmer.

“My quite posh accent is how I was brought up to speak. I’m just keeping it real, as they say,” he told the Telegraph.

While some have questioned whether Dave is Charge is a spoof, he insists he is serious about his rapping career.

“I’ve been a fan of rap music since around my year six school disco, when I heard Eminem’s The Real Slim Shady for the first time,” he said.

“I’m genuine and sincere. My stuff is supposed to be quirky, eye-catching, strange and memorable. I just hope people enjoy my music.”
