Marriott Hotel ablaze in Pakistan

A fire has broken out at a major international hotel in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad, five months after it was hit by a deadly suicide bombing. Smoke could be seen pouring from the upscale Marriott Hotel, close to the country’s presidential palace. There was no immediate word on the cause of the blaze.

Pig liver dish in China sickens 14

A dish of stir-fried pig’s liver served at a dinner party in Guangzhou, China, poisoned 14 people with what authorities think was an animal feed additive, a Chinese state-run news agency reported. Investigators made 52 arrests in overnight raids in California, Minnesota and Maryland, increasing to more than 750 the number of suspects detained in the coast-to-coast operation to disrupt the Sinaloa cartel, Holder said.

Woman’s life in danger after chimp attack

A woman has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a pet chimpanzee attacked her at a friend’s home in Stamford, Connecticut, police said. Charla Nash, 55, had just arrived at her friend Sandra Herold’s house when the chimp, named Travis, jumped on her and began biting and mauling her, causing serious injuries to her face, neck and hands, according to Stamford Police Capt.
