Police: 8 killed in highway crash outside New York

A three-vehicle crash north of New York killed eight people, including four children, state police said on Sunday. A fifth child is being treated for injuries suffered in the crash near Pleasantville, about 30 miles north of New York. Police initially reported no survivors.

24 hurt in Hong Kong’s third acid attack in 6 months

Authorities in Hong Kong were reviewing surveillance tapes Tuesday to determine who tossed a bottle of acid from the top of a building, injuring 24 pedestrians in a busy shopping district.

Two men convicted of torturing, killing French students

Two British men were convicted Thursday of torturing and killing two French students in London last June, London’s Metropolitan Police said. Nigel Farmer, 34, and Daniel “Dano” Sonnex, 23, were also found guilty of arson, false imprisonment and burglary. The bodies of Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez, both 23, were found in Bonomo’s burned apartment in southeast London last summer.
