Fans pay homage to Hillsborough victims

Thousands of Liverpool fans marked the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster in a special memorial service at Anfield on Wednesday. Ninety six supporters died on April 15, 1989 before an FA Cup semifinal between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at Sheffield Wednesday’s stadium, one of the worst tragedies in sporting history. Super-sub Macheda keeps United on top

Australian World Cup qualification delayed

Australia were frustrated in their bid to become the first side to reach next year’s World Cup finals in South Africa after beating Uzbekistan 2-0 to regain control of Asian Group A. Had Bahrain and Qatar drawn their match in Manama later on Wednesday, the Socceroos would have been celebrating qualification.
