Beaten Tiger says he needs to improve

Tiger Woods had to settle for fourth place as Sean O’Hair clung on for a one-shot victory in the $6.4 million Quail Hollow Championship in North Carolina. O’Hair finished with a three-under 69 to hold off fellow Americans Lucas Glover and Bubba Watson, with the world number one a further shot back after a frustrating level-par 72. Woods admitted afterwards that he is still looking to rediscover his best form after his comeback from knee surgery.

Nadal to play Djokovic in Monte Carlo final

Rafael Nadal beat Andy Murray in straight sets to reach the final of the Monte Carlo Masters where he will play Serbia’s Novak Djokovic on Sunday. Nadal will be bidding for his fifth straight title in the principality but was made to work for his 6-2 7-6 victory by Scot Murray who once again showed his growing adaptability to clay.

Serena loses World No.1 spot to Safina

Dinara Safina will go to the top of the world rankings in place of Serena Williams after the American’s shock defeat at a tournament in Spain, the WTA announced on its official Web site www.sonyericssonwtatour.com. Williams went down 6-4 3-6 6-1 to Klara Zakopalova at the Andalucia Open in Marbella which means the Russian will go to world number one in the ranking lists released on April 20. Safina is only the second Russian woman, after Maria Sharapova, to claim the top spot and it will match the achievement of her brother Marat who was the top men’s player in the world in 2000

United face Porto in Champions League

European champions Manchester United will play Porto in the quarterfinals of this season’s Champions League, while Liverpool and Chelsea were drawn to face each other in the knockout stages for the fourth time in five seasons. English sides dominated the eight-team draw in Nyon, Switzerland, with Arsenal making up a quartet of Premier League clubs chasing European football’s top prize.
