Arsenal fight back to reach FA Cup semis

Two goals in the last 17 minutes saw Arsenal fight back from going a goal behind to beat Hull City 2-1 and secure a Wembley date with Chelsea in the semifinals of the FA Cup. Despite being favorites to progress, in-form Arsenal had lost at home to Hull earlier in the season — and another surprise looked on the cards when the visitors took a 13th-minute lead. Arshavin breaks duck as Arsenal go fourth

Andrey Arshavin scored his first goal for Arsenal, as Arsene Wenger’s side followed-up their midweek success on penalties in Rome by thumping Blackburn 4-0 on Saturday to move up to fourth place in the Premier League. The Gunners went ahead in the second minute when Theo Walcott’s cross from the right was sent goal-bound by Arshavin, but Dutch defender Andre Ooijer got the final touch to register an own goal. However, Russian Arshavin was not to be denied his goal — and it duly came in the second half when he ghosted past defender Danny Simpson before lifting the ball over goalkeeper Paul Robinson into the roof of the net

Holders Manchester United swept into the last eight of the Champions League with a 2-0 second leg victory over Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan — and Arsenal joined them after a dramatic penalty shoot-out win at Roma. Spain beat England as Beckham equals record

David Villa and Fernando Llorente scored the goals as European champions Spain extended their amazing unbeaten run to 29 games with a 2-0 victory over an England side for whom David Beckham equalled the Three Lions record of 108 caps for an outfield player. A tight match between two in-form sides in Seville came to life in the 36th minute when Xabi Alonso’s pass found Villa in the area — and the Valencia striker twisted defender Phil Jagielka one way then another before slotting the ball into the corner of the net.
