U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton headed for South Korea on Thursday on the third leg of her four-nation tour of Asia. The visit comes at a time of escalating tensions on the Korean peninsula and after U.S. officials cited evidence that North Korea was gearing up for a launch of a long-range missile. North Korean officials have disputed the claim, saying in the country's official news agency that Pyongyang was preparing to launch a satellite. But Pyongyang said Thursday ...

Likud Party leader Benjamin Netanyahu has picked up tentative support that could give him the inside track on forming a coalition government and becoming Israel's next prime minister. Avigdor Lieberman of Yisrael Beytenu, a right-wing party, said he would recommend Netanyahu for the post, but only if he promises to form a broad-based coalition government, a spokesman for the Israeli president's office said Thursday. As America's first black president settles into the Oval Office, it seems an odd time for Georgia to be up in arms over school integration again. In 1961, when a federal court ordered the University of Georgia to admit two black students, 1,000 white rioters hurled firecrackers, bricks and racial epithets through dorm windows. But 1961 this is not: today a white Republican is leading the charge, and black students and lawmakers are fighting for the status quo. With ...

Tahir Annono, who is in Cairo for the truce meetings, said that more meetings would take place Friday and Saturday, and on Sunday an announcement would be made. It was not immediately clear if Israel was in agreement. Hamas' deputy leader, Moussa Abu Marzouk, said that the truce would last for 18 months and that all commercial border ...

Pakistani authorities have not confirmed that a kidnapped Polish engineer is the man that was beheaded on a Taliban video, despite assertions from Polish officials that they are certain the man is Piotr Stanczak. "We want to be absolutely sure," said Abdual Basit, a spokesman for Pakistan's foreign office. "Hopefully we would be able to confirm it shortly, but unless we are 100 percent sure, it would be premature for us to react." He noted that the Pakistani government is ...

Fans of porn star Stormy Daniels are drafting her to run for the U.S. Senate seat in Louisiana now held by Republican Sen. David Vitter. And it's no racy gimmick, they say. The Draft Stormy Web site says that "2010 presents the Pelican State with the opportunity to start with a clean slate -- to elect a representative that we can be proud of, who will work tirelessly, and who will challenge the status quo. We at the Draft Stormy ...

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has urged the leaders of Madagascar to resolve their differences after an anti-government rally a day earlier turned violent and left more than two dozen people dead. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ban deplored the violence and called Sunday on authorities "to urgently initiate a fair process by which those responsible will be brought to justice." Ban also blamed the "tragedy" on a "lack of restraint on all sides." "The Secretary-General calls upon all ...
