Ryan Kwanten ‘begged’ for scenes with Alexander Skarsgard

Warning: Spoiler alert if you haven’t seen Tuesday night’s episode yet.

This week’s episode of True Blood started with quite the bang, as loyal fans were rewarded for seven years of service with a scene featuring two of their favourite characters in an intimate encounter.

In the second episode of the vampire drama’s final season, Bon Temps sheriff Jason Stackhouse, played by Australian Ryan Kwanten, acted on a deep-seated attraction for 1000-year-old vampire Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard).

The up close and shirtless scene turned out to be a dream sequence, but fans didn’t mind, taking to social media to express their delight.

Kwanten told E! although he and Skarsgard were series regulars, they were rarely onscreen together.

“We really only saw each other at the table reads, which is maybe once every two weeks,” he explained. “We’d begged (to) give us scenes together.”

Kwanten said when he read Jason’s sexy fantasy sequence, he thought it was fantastic.

“It was somewhat hilarious… it comes from a very funny point.”

True Blood, known for its high camp, buff bodies, and over the top storylines, has always been aware of its huge following in the LGBT community.

The airing of the second episode in the United States coincided with Gay Pride day, and the 45th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, which followed a police raid on a New York gay bar.

True Blood will wrap up this year, after seven seasons of sex, gore, love triangles and Southern accents.

Critics have been less enthused by the last few seasons, and while many have identified the Eric/Jason sex scene as blatant fan service, they also admit the series is addictive popcorn TV.

True Blood screens on Sky’s Soho on Tuesday nights at 8.30pm.
