Lorde wants radio to drop Royals

Lorde wants radio stations to stop playing her break-out single Royals.

The 17-year-old Auckland singer, real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor, scored a global hit with her debut track and last month won two Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.

“I want to let people stop hearing Lorde on the radio all the time, because it’s kind of crazy at the moment,” she told V-Magazine.

“I’d like to give people a little bit of breathing room before I unleash something different.”

Lorde also told the magazine’s March issue that she didn’t agree with being labelled the “voice of a generation” after a writer had called her “the Nirvana of now”.

“Oh come on. I’m sure so many people will read that and be like, F**k off!,” she said.

She also admitted that grazing red carpets at glossy events was bizarre.

“You’re right, it is at odds with what I write about, and the reality of my life until a few months ago,” she said.

“But when I go home, I still do all the stuff I used to do. I dunno . . . part of me feels like it’s weird to just get sucked into that world.”

The Kiwi teen is featuring on one of the four covers of the magazine’s music issue along with Haim, Say Lou Lou and Banks.

Wearing a Chanel dress, Lorde was photographed for the magazine by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin – the duo responsible for Lady Gaga’s nude shoot for the same publication last year.
