Gabby Douglas Falters In London Olympics Uneven Bars Final

After winning two gold medals, Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas had high hopes for her uneven bars final on Monday (August 6), but unfortunately she didn’t finish as planned.

Gabrielle Douglas competes on the beam during day 2 of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team Trials at HP Pavilion on June 28, 2012 in San Jose, California.

The 16-year-old all-around champion finished in last place with a score of 14.9. After the shocking result, she told press, “I did an inside pull. I was over it a little bit too much,” adding, “I’m kind of disappointed in myself. I could have fought a little harder on that, you know, pulled a little harder. … I tried to finish up really strong, the best I could, to cover up the pirouette.”

Miss Douglas has one shot left at another medal before she departs London when competing the the balance beam final on Tuesday (August 7). In anticipation she said, “Beam has been excellent. If I can just do what I did in the all-around finals or team finals, then I’ll be good.”

There’s no denying that Gabby has put strain on her young body. While prepping for her final chance at a medal she explained, “I’m going to get a lot of rest, just rest up, and do a lot of therapies and relax my body and hopefully prepare for that.”
