First Twitter Wedding

Cengizhan Celik and Canan Canik became the first couple to get married via Twitter

Just when we say “we have seen it all” a newly wed couple from Turkey surprised us with an nontraditional wedding ceremony.

YahooNews reported that on Monday, a Turkish couple made their marriage official by tweeting ‘I do‘ in what’s believed to be the world’s first Twitter-hosted wedding. Actually they wrote ‘Evet’—the Turkish word for ‘Yes’—on their iPads, and added a few extra ‘T’s’ as is customary when expressing joy through digital mediums.

The groom, Cengizhan Celik, is a social media editor for the news website Ensonhaber.com, so it almost makes sense that Twitter would serve as his best man. The bride, Candan Canik, doesn’t seem to share the same enthusiasm for the service, considering her vow was her first tweet.

The couple broadcast the ceremony on YouTube and the groom tweeted the whole wedding live.

Celik’s decision to live-tweet his romantic milestone was simple. He told a Turkish newspaper he wanted “a little surprise.”
