First look at new Superman

Superman fans have been given their first official look at the Man of Steel for the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

In a newly released still, British actor Henry Cavill stands on a rainy rooftop in the character’s iconic blue bodysuit and billowing red cape.

With a dark city skyline looming in the background, the image seems to signal a moody, gritty tone for the 2016 flick.

The image was released to USA Today to accompany an interview with director Zack Snyder.

In the interview, Snyder admitted he never intended to include Bruce Wayne in his follow up to Man of Steel.

“I was in no rush to put Batman in the movie,” he said.

“But on the other hand, it seemed organic the way our story was unfolding to start to feather him in.”

He said Ben Affleck’s Batman would be an older, wearier take on the Caped Crusader.

“It’s cooler to see a crusty old Batman beating the snot out of guys,” Snyder said.

Synder also warned those expecting macho smackdowns between Cavill and Affleck might be disappointed.

The film’s title reads Batman v Superman, but the director was quick to point out the subtly of using a “v” rather than “vs” between the two superheroes.

Speaking about the film’s other hero – or heroine, rather – the Sucker Punch director said Wonder Woman Gal Gadot was busy hitting the gym.

“She’s working out and getting buff and ripped,” he said.
