Dawson slams Twitter over ‘disturbing’ images

TV personality Charlotte Dawson has succeeded, after several hours, to have an Twitter account featuring images of child rape suspended.

Dawson used her considerable following on Monday night to start outrage after she was alerted to the account by a singer in the US.

Although Dawson refused to name the account, it appeared briefly to be gaining followers.

Dawson, who has legions of Twitter followers and campaigns against bullying, first posted her concerns on her Twitter account at 7.42pm.

“Unbelievable there is an active twitter account which is posting VERY disturbing child porn images really @TwitterAU @twitter WRONG!” she tweeted.

Over a series of subsequent tweets, she said she had reported it to police – not specifying whether it was state or Federal police – and to Twitter, but Twitter hadn’t taken the disturbing account down.

She tweeted: “The account has over 1000 followers, how does this even happen Disgusting @twitter @TwitterAU & it’s still active. Utterly revolting,” and “Account still active pics of child rape. I’m utterly gobsmacked & distressed these images this account is still active.”

At 8.05pm Ms Dawson tweeted: “Account still active & follower count going up. What F**K has this world come to A disgrace.”

“Thousands have reported in the last 3 hours & it stays active..”

She urged followers who knew the offender’s user name to not publish it. “It’s distributing the material just REPORT!”

By 9.04pm Dawson said that: Followers report a/c still up. @twitter @TwitterAU now criminally negligent. Utter disgrace.”

At 9.15pm, Twitter Australia tweeted: “@MsCharlotteD Hi Charlotte. Give us a follow and we can discuss via DM.”

Then at 9.39pm Dawson reported: “Finally after hours @twitter @TwitterAU from thousands of reports the child porn/rape account has been ‘suspended’ thank you x #peoplepower.’
