Vienna’s favourite picture book

We have teamed up with the NZ Post Children’s Books Awards and asked kids to tell us about their favourite books.

Jennifer Hussey tells us about her 2-year-old daughter Vienna’s favourite book.

Ko Pipi me ngā Kīrehe o te Pō is the Te Reo version (translated by Paora Tibble) of the Jane Hessell book Phoebe and the Night Creatures.

This is my 2-year-old daughter Vienna’s favourite book.

First thing in the morning at kōhanga and last thing at night before bed she wants the book read to her. She actually knows all the words in the story herself.

It tells a tale of things that go “bump” in the night but Pipi isn’t scared and she finds out all her new friends just need a little help with something.

Te Reo is Vienna’s first language, and it is importanat to us to carry that through to what we read to her for story-time.

Vienna says “he tino pai tnei pukapuka ki ahau, he tino ataahua a Pipi”
