Widespread Flood Watches in Place for Much of East Coast as Driving Rain, Winds Drench Region
The remnants of Tropical Storm Nicole is drenching much of the eastern seaboard with driving rain and prompting widespread flood watches, reports CBS News weather anchor Dave Price.

In south Florida, severe thunderstorms made some streets impassable and driving dangerous. In Hollywood, Fla., portable pumps are being used to try to keep low-lying areas from being flooded.

In Wilmington, N.C., some businesses are sandbagging, preparing for historic flooding. Forecasters fear this storm could break records set when Hurricane Floyd barreled through in 1999.

North Carolina has already gotten several days of rain and may get swamped with 15 inches before this storm passes through. North Carolina’s governor has declared a state of emergency.

People there are being urged not to drive if the rain becomes too intense and roads become flooded.
