The light-hearted weekly One News segment, which looks at everyday New Zealanders helping others and the community, has being going since 2007 and with only 48 Good Sorts pieces done each year, Jones admits it is tough deciding who makes the cut.

Murder Trial Points to War Trauma

A Maryland murder trial is being turned into a debate on the lingering traumatic impact of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq on the psyche of the Americans who served there. The prosecution is trying to prove that Gary Smith, a one-time Army Ranger, murdered his roommate of 20 days and fellow Ranger Michael McQueen, 22, by putting a .38-caliber revolver to his right temple and pulling the trigger.

Kandi Burruss has broken her silence in the wake of the death of her fianc, Ashley “A.J.” Jewell. The newest cast member of Bravo’s hit reality show “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” released a statement after Jewell died Saturday following a fistfight.

Flight 1549 passenger wants therapy compensation

Tess Sosa and her daughter have had a hard time forgetting US Airways Flight 1549’s emergency landing in New York City’s Hudson River in January. Sosa and Sophia, 4, have needed therapy, and the Sosas have had to pay out of their own pockets because US Airways’ insurer says only three counseling sessions are covered. The family has private insurance and large deductible.
