Bombing injures Somali interior minister

A roadside bomb attack Thursday in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, injured the nation’s interior minister and killed one of his secretaries, according to a source close to the minister. The mid-day attack on Abdukadir Ali Omar, a member of the transitional government, left him with shrapnel wounds to his leg. The extent of his injuries was unclear, said the source, who requested anonymity because he is not allowed to speak to the media

Purported bin Laden message urges Somali leader’s removal

Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has called for Somalia’s new president to be overthrown, according to an audio recording posted Thursday on the Internet. Bin Laden said Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed had been president of the country’s Islamic Courts but “as a result of inducements and offers from the American envoy in Kenya, he changed and turned back on his heels” ..
