American Allyson Felix cruised to her third straight women’s 200 meters gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin — but compatriot Jeremy Wariner failed to secure his own hat-trick in the men’s 400m. Felix clocked a time of 20.02 seconds in the Olympic Stadium to beat Olympic champion Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica into second, with Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie of the Bahamas in bronze. “It is very special for me to win here in Berlin,” Felix, 23, told reporters.

The film about Michael Jackson’s final three months, which uses video of rehearsals for his concert comeback, will run in theaters worldwide for two weeks only beginning October 28, according to Sony Pictures. Tickets for “Michael Jackson: This Is it” go on sale Sunday, September 27, Sony said in a news release Thursday.

Woods says he was not fined for outburst

Tiger Woods claims he escaped a fine for his outspoken comments about a tournament official after his four-shot win at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Sunday. Woods lambasted European Tour referee John Paramor for warning him and playing partner Padraig Harrington for slow play in the final round at Firestone. Harrington, who led Woods by a shot playing the 16th, appeared rushed after the warning and ended up making a triple bogey eight on the hole to end his chances

Contador on verge of second Tour success

Alberto Contador is on the verge of winning his second Tour de France in three years after finishing fourth to fellow-Spaniard Juan Manuel Garate in the arduous 20th and penultimate 167km stage to the top of Mont Ventoux. Contador came home alongside his rivals for overall victory as the stage turned into a tactical battle between the race leaders while the two remnants of an early 16-man breakaway group, Garate and Germany’s Tony Martin, battled it out for the glory of finishing first at the top of the ‘Giant of Provence.’ Garate eventually won his duel with Team Columbia’s Martin by three seconds, giving Rabobank their first stage victory in what has been a disappointing Tour for the Dutch team.
