Grocery chain recalls pistachios over salmonella fears

North Carolina-based grocery chain Harris Teeter voluntarily recalled its pistachio nuts because of possible salmonella contamination from its supplier, California-based Setton Farms. The products involved in the recall include: Planters Light Salted Nutrition Mix, Planters Dry Roasted Pistachio, Planters Mixed Nuts and Raisins, Roasted Salted Pistachios, Ciao Bella Pistachio Gelato Single Serve, and Harris Teeter Natural Roasted and Salted Pistachios. The recall is limited to packages of various sizes

Prosecutor: Levy ‘random victim’ of Salvadoran laborer

Nearly seven years after the remains of federal intern Chandra Levy were found in a Washington park, a jailed laborer from El Salvador faces a murder charge in her death, authorities said Tuesday. A judge on Tuesday signed an arrest warrant for Ingmar Guandique, 27, who is serving a 10-year sentence for two assaults in Rock Creek Park that occurred around the time of Levy’s disappearance.

Official kidnapped in Pakistan, despite Swat Valley cease-fire

A top official in Pakistan’s troubled Swat Valley was kidnapped Sunday — a day after a cease-fire between the government and Taliban militants was supposed to go into effect. Kushal Khan was on his way to take up his new post as the District Coordination Officer when unknown gunmen kidnapped him and six members of his security guards near Mingora, the valley’s main city, officials said. Arrests in India after hepatitis B kills 32

Authorities were carrying out raids at medical stores in India’s western Gujarat state for bogus drugs and recycled syringes after a hepatitis B outbreak left 32 people dead, officials said Saturday.
