REVIEW: The most consistently funny Kiwi film in more than a decade – even the tagline is genius. “Some interviews with some vampires,” it offers tentatively, perfectly encapsulating the self-deprecation implicit in our local arts industry (“Yeah, nah, we made a movie – it’s OK”) and the wit of nodding to one of the biggest vampire movies of all time, while undermining the quote through understatement.

Gwar frontman David Brockie died of heroin overdose

David Brockie, frontman for the Grammy nominated “extraterrestrial” metal band Gwar, died of an accidental heroin overdose in March, the Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office said. Brockie, 50, who gained an international fan base performing as a 43-billion-year-old alien vocalist for the satirical band, was found by his roommate on March 23 dead in his Richmond home

Shock as slasher attacks Japan girl group

A man wielding a saw slashed and injured two members of Japanese female pop group AKB48, rated by Guinness as the world’s biggest such group, at a fan event in Japan, leaving the country stunned at the extremely rare violent crime. The group, known for its perky routines, was shaking hands with fans at a meet-and-greet function on Sunday (local time), when the man attacked them with a weapon described variously as a 50-cm-long saw or a hatchet, Japanese media said.
