Tila Tequila denies being drunk during Merriman incident

The reality television show personality who accused football player Shawne Merriman of choking her over the weekend has denied that she was drunk during the incident, her Twitter page said Monday. “I am allergic to alcohol,” said the posting for Tila Nguyen, 27, who goes by Tila Tequila.

Journalist jailed for criticizing Sri Lanka’s military

A Sri Lankan court sentenced a journalist Monday to serve 20 years in prison for articles that criticized the military, according to the Asian Human Rights Commission. “The AHRC is not surprised by this judgment because at the very inception of this case, the AHRC pointed out that this is purely a political case,” the commission said in a statement.

Serb cousins guilty of burning Muslims alive

A U.N. tribunal convicted two Serb cousins Monday of having burned alive more than 100 Muslims in what the presiding judge called a part of the "wretched history of man’s inhumanity to man." Milan Lukic and Sredoje Lukic were convicted of crimes dating back to the early 1990s, during the bitter ethnic conflict that ravaged the former Yugoslavia. The crimes include two incidents in which Muslim men, women and children were forced into homes that were then set on fire — some who tried to escape were shot.

Guatemala rejects slain lawyer’s assassination claim

The Guatemalan government has dismissed allegations that it was behind the death of a lawyer who left a video saying President Alvaro Colom would be to blame if anything happened to him. The lawyer, Rodrigo Rosenberg, was shot dead Sunday while bicycling in Guatemala City. On Monday, a video surfaced, in which Rosenberg — seated behind a desk and speaking into a microphone — linked Colom and an aide to his death

‘Italian Fritzl’ and son held in incest case

Police in Italy say they have arrested a grandfather and his son for allegedly sexually abusing the elder man’s daughter for more than a 25 years, in a case likened to Austria’s Josef Fritzl. The 41-year-old son, identified by police only by the pseudonym Giovanni, was arrested February 16; his 64-year-old father was arrested March 16, Turin Police Inspector Iolanda Seri told CNN Saturday. Both men were imprisoned, and were charged with sexual abuse of their daughter and sister, who is now 34 and has been identified by the pseudonym Laura.
