No intention of making Avengers 2 without Downey Jr.

Loyalty can be hard thing to come by in Hollywood but Joss Whedon is pledging his towards Robert Downey Jr. saying he couldn’t imagine himself directing an Avengers 2 without the actor.

In an interview with the Daily Beast plugging his recent pic Much Ado About Nothing, Whedon was asked about Avengers 2 and the status of Robert Downey Jr., who has still not signed on for the sequel.

“He is Iron Man. He is Iron Man in the way that Sean Connery was James Bond, ” Whedon said. “I have no intention of making Avengers 2 without him, nor do I think I’ll be called upon to do that,” Whedon says.

“I don’t think it’s in my interest, Marvel’s interest, or his interest, and I think everything will be fine. But I know that this is Hollywood and you roll with things. You have to be ready for the unexpected.”

As it was reported in May, early discussions have begun between Marvel and the actor to return though sources say there is still no offer on the table.

Many believe Downey will return but the actor has made it pretty clear his salary would either have to stay the same or see some kind of increase to return.

We’ll still have to wait and see what happens with Downey’s contract but it should help that the man behind the camera has already shown what side he is on.
