Never-kissed woman wows Cowell, becomes YouTube sensation

A 47-year-old British charity worker who says she has never been kissed has become a YouTube sensation after singing in front of Simon Cowell.

Susan Boyle, from West Lothian in Scotland, appeared on the television show “Britain’s Got Talent” at the weekend. A YouTube clip of her performance now has more than 5 million hits. Before appearing on stage to sing “I Dreamed a Dream” from the musical “Les Miserables,” Boyle told the show’s hosts that she lived with her cat Pebbles and had never been married or kissed, adding that it was “not an advert.” Watch Boyle sing and the reaction “I’m trying to be a professional singer… I’m going to make that audience rock.” Before singing she told Cowell, also a judge on “American Idol,” that she wanted to be like singer and stage star Elaine Page. A skeptical audience laughed. However, as soon as she began singing the crowd leapt to their feet.

Afterwards, Cowell said her performance was fantastic. “I knew that the minute you walked out on that stage that we were going to hear something extraordinary.” His fellow judge, Piers Morgan, said it was “the biggest surprise I have had in three years on this show.” “When you stood there, with that cheeky grin, and said I want to be like Elaine Page everyone was laughing at you. No one is laughing now. That was stunning. An incredible performance.”

Amanda Holden, the third judge cried, describing it as a privilege to hear. Boyle said afterwards that she felt “bloody fantastic” and that she was very “emotional.”
