Mad Men star still battles with rejection

Christina Hendricks insists she was “rejected a million times” before she landed her Mad Men role.

The stunning redhead has become an international sex symbol since she was cast to play alluring secretary Joan Harris on the hit American television drama in 2007.

Before her lucky break Hendricks insists she was just like any other struggling actress.

Despite her difficulties she says she’s grateful for the character-building experience.

“I’ve been to a million auditions and have been rejected a million times, so it’s something that I’m used to,” she tells the United States’ Flare magazine.

Hendricks believes casting directors sometimes hire on the most obscure whims. When she auditions now she tries her best not to take it personally if she doesn’t get the job.

“You’re either right for it or you’re not right for it,” she says.

“You could leave thinking you had the best audition in the world and they say you don’t look like the person I imagined. It has nothing to do with your talent. Someone could have just broken up with a redhead the other day and not want to hire me.”

Hendricks remains thankful her star hasn’t risen to epic proportions. Without paparazzi tailing her every move she’s still able to enjoy a somewhat normal existence with husband Geoffrey Arend.

She doubts celebrity photographers would be very interested in her personal life anyway.

“I’m not out doing crazy things. I’m just not that famous, to be honest,” she says.

“I get to live a very normal life I can take the garbage out and walk down the street and have ramen and it’s fine.”
