Jackson’s tribute to Hobbit fans

Sir Peter Jackson has probably made a pair of Hobbit fans who filmed their frenzied reactions to the new trailer even more excited.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug teaser trailer was released yesterday, and one of the girls watching it had to bite down on a piece of tissue to stop herself from screaming.

Sisters Kellie and Alex filmed themselves watching, gasping, and screaming at the two-minute trailer for the first time.

Jackson saw the video and posted it to his Facebook page saying it was “pretty cute”.

He then filmed Hobbit cast members Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, and Lee Pace watching their reaction, saying “here’s what I guess you’d call a sequel to that fan video”.

More than 20,000 people liked his video of the video, with many applauding Jackson for satisfying The Hobbit’s avid fans.

“This is what I adore about Peter Jackson,” wrote Marc Hartley.

“Those fans will be in heaven on earth after seeing the actors watching their responses to them in the trailer.”

Kellie and Alex, nicknamed “Kili” and “Fili”after two Dwarves from Lord of the Rings, have their own YouTube page called Happy Hobbit, where they post their webseries inspired by their “lifelong passion for Tolkien”.

They started it to help people incorporate Middle-Earth into their daily lives, and to spread “Hobbit-y cheer.”

They have recruited family members to make fan films since 2004.

Alex, or Fili, said she did not even remember her life before Tolkien.

“It’s moulded me into who I am, made me a fantasy fan for life, and inspired me to go into film,” she said.

“Plus, I’m a Hobbit at heart.”

Jackson’s post has prompted several requests of another video – of the girls watching the cast members watching the video of them watching the trailer.
