Geoff Robinson turns off mic

After 44 years, veteran Radio New Zealand host Geoff Robinson is today signing off the airwaves.

The farewell caps a career during which he has reported on some of the major news events, including the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, a multitude of elections, the Rainbow Warrior bombing in 1985, the Christchurch earthquakes, and the Aramoana massacre.

At the beginning of his last Morning Report broadcast this morning, he estimated he had worked with more than 40 co-hosts – temporary and fixed – during his time doing the early news show.

These include well -known broadcasters such as Kim Hill, Sean Plunket, and Lindsay Perigo.

Robinson started his career at Radio New Zealand – which was then the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation –
