Bolt – I want to emulate Owens in Berlin

Usain Bolt is aiming to emulate the great Jesse Owens at the Berlin World Athletics Championships.
Triple Olympic champion and world 100m record holder Usain Bolt has said he wants to emulate the great Jesse Owens at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin.

Owens famously won four gold medals in the 1936 Berlin Olympics and Jamaican Bolt is aiming to follow the American legend’s lead by claiming gold in the 100m and 200m as well as the 100m relay. Speaking on the eve of the championships, Bolt told reporters: “This is going to be a huge week. Jesse Owens came to Berlin and made history and I am going to try and do the same. “I’m going to go onto the track and try my best — hopefully it will be enough for me to live up to what Jesse Owens did.” Bolt set the sporting world alight with his performances in Beijing last year and he believes he is going to Germany in top form. “My training has been good. I am always confident and mentally strong so I am ready for any big competition. I know that Tyson Gay will put up a big challenge. He is the champion and wants to defend his title but I am going to Berlin to try and dethrone him,” added Bolt. Blog: Bolt unstoppable in Berlin “It would be great if I could break the world record in the process. People want the world record to be broken and are looking forward to the possibility it might be broken. I’m predicting myself to take gold, but to break the record would be a bonus.” Bolt will undoubtedly be the biggest name in the week-long extravaganza but he already has his eyes on repeating his Beijing heroics at the next Olympic Games.

“I take my career a year at a time and my main aim is to stay at the top of the tree and to continue winning and enjoying my sport. “But the 2012 Olympics in London should be great. There are a ton-load of Jamaicans living in London and it will be like running at home. That will be a lot of fun and I’ll really go out and enjoy myself there.
