Album review: Filthy Empire – Heaven’s Basement

FILTHY EMPIRE
Heaven’s Basement
(Shock)

A balls-out honest rocker from a bunch of Brits for whom screeching Slash-style solos and screaming Def Leppard backing vocals aren’t something to hide from your hipster relatives.

Rather something to parade around in ripped jeans and cut-off denim jackets.

While most have relegated this late-80s cheese to bargain bins or tried to modernise it in Nickelback-style Hollywood soundtrack cockery, vocalist Aaron Buchanan’s raw passion sounds as fresh as Jon Bon Jovi a quarter of a century ago.

And if 80s revival is good enough for the synth and turntable brigades, why the hell shouldn’t the rockers get in on the party too – whether there’s much of an audience out there for it, who knows
