Album review: Black & Bloom – Kingston

BLACK & BLOOM
Kingston
(Rhythmethod)

There’s something very admirable about a band who know what they are about and go about their business with a sense of passion and purpose.

Kingston are an Auckland-based power pop band, with shades of Green Day and Joseph Parker.

They are fuzzballs of energy packing a power punch.

And all power to them that they can write music that extends beyond artistic appeal into commercial appeal.

Kentucky Fried Chicken and Ford have used Kingston songs Good Good Feeling and You Want It as soundtracks to recent branding campaigns.

The latest single Miss You, is all churning guitars and stomachs with a catchy lyric line about a love that got away.

On the surface of it, Black & Bloom is standard throwaway pop fare that you have heard in different guises before but Kingston are such unaffected naturals that their songs can stick around in your mind without a personal invitation.
