Why Witherspoon took a wobbly shot

Reese Witherspoon was reportedly so intoxicated on the night she got arrested that she took a “wobbly” mugshot.

The actress was taken into police custody on April 19 in Atlanta, Georgia after she and her husband Jim Toth were pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving.

Now it has been revealed that the reason she was looking down in her photograph was because she was unsteady.

“She was wobbly,” a source within the Atlanta Department of Corrections told People magazine.

“She didn’t need help walking, but she wasn’t at a point where we could get a really clear picture.”

Apparently it was the best identification they could get of the screen star given the circumstances.

Her spouse was the driver and the one facing serious charges for driving under influence while she was apparently uncooperative with the questioning officer.

“On another picture, she sort of bent down at the waist and we got the top of her head,” said the insider.

“She wasn’t being difficult or rude, but her motor skills weren’t what they needed to be.”

The snap has prompted the question of whether she got preferential treatment, as a representative would usually reposition the offender to capture the right shot.

However since Witherspoon wasn’t the one breaking the law she may have been let off slightly easier.

“You can’t look down in the photograph,” Atlanta criminal defence attorney Peter Odom said. “The whole point of a mugshot is for identification purposes. To my knowledge, there is no exception to this rule.

“When someone is in custody, there isn’t a lot of personal space. They will grab your head and move it into the right position to get the right mugshot. But in this case, protocol was definitely not followed.”
