TV Guide’s hot gossip

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa is no stranger to hob-nobbing with the British aristocracy, but she is about to take a leap back in time to the world of Downton Abbey as the hit British drama enters its fourth season.

Dame Kiri will guest star as a house guest who sings for the family (what else) in a season that sees the return of Shirley MacLaine as Cora’s American mum, Martha. Wonder what the acoustics are like at Downton

Errr…is this a wise move Troubled actress, Lindsay Lohan, is set to guest-star on equally-troubled actor, Charlie Sheen’s comedy, Anger Management.

Not only that, but she will be playing herself, as a patient of Charlie’s, who develops a romantic relationship with him. Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan. Hey, what could possibly go wrong

The Kiwi invasion of Aussie TV continues – to the point at which we’re now sending our stars over in pairs! Married couple, Craig Hall and Sara Wiseman, have both scored roles in the new Australian drama, A Place To Call Home, about a wealthy 1950s family thrown into chaos by the arrival of a mysterious woman. What’s the betting Craig and Sara will be calling Australia home soon, too

It’s only taken about half a century, but the great Richard Burton has finally been awarded a star on Hollywood’s Walk Of Fame – right next to former wife, Elizabeth Taylor’s.

The award of the star, 29 years after Burton’s death, was the result of a campaign by a Welsh newspaper to honour their countryman, who shot to fame in the notorious Hollywood epic, Cleopatra, with Taylor.

Don’t be surprised to see sparks flying between the two stars again!

Watch out for a truly explosive episode of Neighbours, with the upcoming wedding of Toadie (Ryan Moloney) and Sonya (Eve Morey) set to end in disaster.

A trailer for the episode reveals that two characters on the long-running Aussie soap may not survive the incident, but Ryan isn’t saying who.

“Toadie is just convinced that things don’t go well for him at weddings. He’s pretty right, really!” is all Moloney will say.

And while we’re at talking about our favourite TV fixes, New Zealand’s only television awards in 2013, TV Guide Best on the Box, has recorded more than 170,000 votes to date and some of the results may come as a bit of a surprise to broadcasters.

Two of the biggest upsets, based on votes received, are for Best Reality Contest and Best Advice Show.

“We have been really surprised by some of the results so far,” TV Guide editor Julie Eley says.

“New Zealand’s Got Talent was the most-watched show on TV in the past decade, but it’s certainly not the most popular when it comes to the Best On The Box awards.”
