Germany’s Sebastian Vettel claimed his first-ever pole for Red Bull as this season”s all-conquering Brawn GP team were relegated to fourth and fifth fastest in Shanghai on Saturday. Vettel, widely regarding as one of the most promising young drivers in F1, will share front row with two-time world champion Fernando Alonso in his Renault with his teammate Mark Webber qualifying third.

Brawn GP win F1 legal battle over diffusers

Jenson Button’s wins in the opening two races of the Formula One season will stand after motorsport chiefs ruled on Wednesday that the aerodynamic diffuser ftited to the rear of his Brawn GP car is legal. The FIA Court of Appeal said that the rear diffusers used by the Brawn, Williams and Toyota teams “comply with the applicable regulations.” The FIA panel sat for eight hours in Paris on Tuesday to hear evidence and their decision backs up a decision by the stewards at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix that the controversial aerodynamic devices were within the rules

Israel: ‘Iron Dome’ rocket shield test a success

Israel says it has successfully tested an anti-rocket system developed to protect the country from short-range rocket and artillery attack from Lebanon and Gaza, defense officials said. McLaren’s Hamilton was way off the pace in Friday’s opening practice sessions in Melbourne, finishing 16th and 18th. It was scarcely better for Ferrari, with Felipe Massa, Hamilton’s title rival last season 10th in the afternoon session and teammate Kimi Raikkonen in 11th.
