Award for Fake movie withdrawn

A US film festival has withdrawn an award given to a British movie about a Gulf War veteran seeking justice after a London court jailed five people for making the movie as part of 2.8 million pound (NZ$5 million) tax scam. Tax inspectors were told that A-listers from Hollywood would be starring in a 19.6 million pound production that would be shot in Britain

Museum cans heavy metal gig

London’s Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) has cancelled an experimental concert by extreme metal band Napalm Death, fearing the noise level could damage the 104-year-old building. Ceramic artist Keith Harrison from the V&A, the world’s largest museum of decorative arts and design, collaborated with Napalm Death on a set to be played through a sculptural sound system which would disintegrate under decibel stress.

Former Iron Maiden drummer dies

Former Iron Maiden drummer Clive Burr, who played on the British heavy metal band’s landmark first three albums, has died at the age of 56, the group said on Wednesday. Burr, who had been suffering from multiple sclerosis, died “peacefully in his sleep at home” in London on Tuesday and had been in poor health for several years, the band said in a statement posted on their website

Bieber in spat with paparazzi

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber was filmed lunging and shouting abuse at a photographer on Friday (NZT Saturday) during an ill-fated stay in London which has gone from bad to worse after he collapsed on stage the day before. The altercation, caught on camera, showed the 19-year-old get out of a van, try to move towards the unnamed member of the paparazzi and threaten him using several swear words.
