The spectacle in India is riveting: virulent anti-Muslim diatribes spouted by a pedigreed and ambitious young Hindu politician who shares the surname of the world's foremost apostle of non-violence and who is descended from the Prime Minister who founded modern India as a secular state to serve the country's multiplicity of faiths. Since early March, Varun Gandhi, 29, has been the scandal of India's political class after he called for, among many things, the hands of Muslims to be cut ...

While the Red River level appeared to be dropping early Sunday, Fargo, North Dakota, officials said they were still holding their collective breath. "In past flooding, you have to understand, we've had times in which people thought it crested and then it came back and went up," Fargo Deputy Mayor Tim Mahoney said. "And our temperature is changing, so we will be reluctant to announce a crest until we truly feel there's been a crest." City Manager Pat Sawyerville ...

Mother Nature provided a little bit of everything throughout parts of the country on Saturday. Heavy winds wreaked havoc on a shopping center in central Tennessee, blowing out windows and damaging the roof of a shopping center, Murfreesboro police spokesman Kyle Evans told CNN Radio. Glass storefronts at the Jackson Heights Shopping Center were blown out 100 to 150 yards into the parking lot, Evans said. Evans said three people were treated for minor injuries from flying glass and ...

Finance Minister Tendai Biti said at the launch that STERP would attempt to convince businesses to gear up, increasing ...

Do you remember the scene in the movie "Something's Gotta Give" where Jack Nicholson's character lies about Viagra to a doctor in the emergency room? He'd just had a heart attack after romancing a (much younger) woman, and the doctor is furiously calling out orders to give him aspirin, blood pressure drugs, and ... nitroglycerine. "Mr. Sanborn, did you take any Viagra today" the doctor asks as the nurses load him up with the medicines. "No. No Viagra," he ...

Some children, like some adults, have chronic, unexplainable pain. They have backaches every day or their legs and feet hurt every day or their necks throb constantly — and no one is sure why. Doctors call this pain idiopathic, a medical term for "we have no clue." Idiopathic pain arises spontaneously and without a known cause. How best to treat idiopathic pain is one of medicine's great mysteries. You can anesthetize patients with painkillers, but that's not a great long-term ...

Bad weather, poor planning, a lack of safety equipment. Any one could put a boater in the kind of peril that befell two NFL players and their two friends off the coast of Florida last weekend, Coast Guard officials say. And such incidents happen all too often. The capsizing of the 21-foot fishing boat carrying the four men to a favorite fishing spot in the Gulf of Mexico was the latest of 200 such incidents reported to the U.S. Coast ...
