Red-hot success for Tattletale Saints

The Tattletale Saints have been pulling in the crowds on their recent six-week, 20-something date tour of New Zealand but that shouldn’t really surprise. The Auckland-based duo of Cy Winstanley and Vanessa McGowan, who have been together on and off both professionally and personally for a decade, won over a dedicated audience when they crowd-funded through Pledgeme their debut album How Red Is The Blood

Album review: Sonido de LatinAotearoa

SONIDO DE LATINAOTEAROA LatinAotearoa (Rhythmethod) It’s doubtful the creative catalysts behind LatinAotearoa – DJ Bobby Brazuka, Jennifer Zea and Isaac Aesili – could have made such a magical album on their own but together, well, they’re a funky and sensual force of nature. The title shouldn’t be misconstrued as a Kiwi take on Latin music – Zea is originally from Venezuela and Brazuka from Chile while Aesili is homegrown – but it was brewed here and features an extraordinary Spanish version of Ladi6’s Walk Right Up.

Whatever happens with their new album Blood Becomes Fire, Wellington heavy metal band Beastwars have got it covered. Nick Kellar, who won a Tui for his album cover design of their self-titled debut album has again produced another potentially award-winning design while a decision to send advance copies of the alum overseas has bought rave reviews

Album review: The Bitter Sea – Nina McSweeney

THE BITTER SEA Nina McSweeney (FMR) Don’t be fooled by the Massive Attack approach of the opening track on Nina McSweeney’s debut album. There’s a lot more depth and substance to the Kiwi songwriter, who has featured on the Concord Dawn tracks Easy Life and The River, than the sound-alike single Lost In Translation might suggest.
