Never-seen-before Star Wars pictures

Never before seen behind-the-scenes photos of the Star Wars trilogy have emerged, thanks to Star Wars actor Peter Mayhew, who portrayed Chewbacca in the original film trilogy.

The actor took to Twitter to share a treasure trove of rare photos spanning all the original films, starting with a photo of Harrison Ford, Anthony Daniels, Carrie Fisher, and himself sharing a laugh on set.

Since the new Star Wars trilogy’s announcement in October 2012, speculation about the film grows every week, with fans itching to know who will be the cast.

Michael Fassbender, Girls star Adam Driver, and Hugo Weaving are among the names rumoured to appear in the coming Star Wars: Episode VII, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

And Breaking Bad star Jesse Plemons has reportedly auditioned for a lead role in the upcoming film, if The Wrap’s unnamed source is to be believed.

These names join a long list of rumoured cast considerations, which include Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael B. Jordan, Jack O’Connell, Alex Pettyfer, Saoirse Ronan and Sullivan Stapleton.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “multiple insiders” have claimed that the original characters Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) will have a larger role in the new films.

The sources also claim the reason for former scriptwriter Michael Arndt’ split from the film last October was over a disagreement with director J. J. Abrams about “which characters to emphasise”.

Arndt wanted a focus on the original characters’ offspring, while Abrams wanted the new film to focus on the original trilogy’s heroes.

Abrams has since teamed up with Lawrence Kasdan, co-writer of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark, to script the film.

Star Wars: Episode VII is not expected to hit cinemas until December 18 next year.
