Mariah Carey is Replacing Jennifer Lopez

 

It is official Mariah Carey is joining American Idol as a judge replacing Jennifer Lopez.

Fox is relying on Mariah Carey  to revitalize”American Idol.”

Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly called the pop star Monday on his phone during the Television Critics Assn. press tour in Beverly Hills to share the news with television journalists.

“I think it’s the biggest recording artist that any of these shows have ever had,” said Reilly.

Carey, who is finishing up on latest album, said she can’t wait to join the show.

“It’s going to be fun,” she said, adding that it will be rewarding to “help find new talent and give back with ‘American Idol.'”

“Welcome to the fam @MariahCarey!!,” Ryan Seacrest wrote to the 42-year-old diva before referencing her hubby and young twins. “When u and @nickcannon need a date night, I’m happy to strap on the double baby bjorn.”

“Idol” Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks said: “I can’t wait to watch @mariahcarey as a judge!! I LOVE her!!”

Perez Hilton: “Ha! I’m actually going to start watching again! #TeamMimi.”
