Little Mermaid casts androgynous model

Androgynous Australia model Andrej Pejic has been cast in Sofia Coppola’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.

Pejic, who has modelled for both men’s and women’s collections, is listed as Sister on the film’s IMDB entry.

So far, she is the only listed member of the cast.

Pejic has previously walked the catwalk for designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier, who hailed the lithe model “a modern woman boy of today.”

While the casting is the Bosnian-born beauty’s official film debut, it won’t be the first time she has appeared on screen.

She featured in David Bowie’s The Stars Are Out Tonight video clip as a blonde bombshell alongside Tilda Swinton.

The Lost In Translation director signed on to bring Hans Christian Andersen’s famous fairy tale back to the screen as a slew of such dramatisations thrive at box offices worldwide.

The latest, Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent, raked in $US70 million (NZ$80.7 million) and topped the US box office upon release.
