Encore for Nothing Trivial fans

Nothing Trivial fans can enjoy an encore of Sex on a Stick after NZ On Air awarded $1.6 million for a one-off television feature.

When TVNZ axed the popular show after its third-season cliffhanger in November, there was outrage.

For followers of the TV One show, the Sex on a Stick pub quiz team were more than just your average television characters – they were family.

NZ on Air chief executive Jane Wrightson said the decision was made because Nothing Trivial’s storylines, acting and production values were terrific.

“There was still a loyal fan base of 265,000 throughout the third series, and we think they deserve the catharsis of a conclusion,” Wrightson said.

The show, which led to a surge in pub quiz attendances when it premiered in July 2011, ended abruptly and left fans with many unanswered questions – did Catherine survive her terrible accident Did Mac have the opportunity to reconcile with the love of his life How did the guilt-ridden Michelle cope with shock after the accident

Fans have responded positively to today’s announcement.

For Wellington’s Ashleigh Lambert there was a lot left unresolved around Blair Strange’s character and his partner.

“You watch the show thinking ‘cool, can’t wait until the next series’ and then they go and cut it off,” she said.

Although happy that there would be some closure, Lambert would have liked to see another couple of seasons and the show have a natural ending where “everyone seems relatively happy”.

With today’s announcement, one thing is sure for Nothing Trivial fans – South Pacific Pictures will have only one chance to ace the bonus round and win the bar tab.

The episode is expected to air on TV One this year.
