Burke posted a video on YouTube disclosing her condition and her plans for surgery to remove herthyroid.
Ready To Deal
The mother of four, 41, says a lump on her thyroid was found during a biopsy. Surgery has been scheduled, but she doesn’t specify when in the video disclosure.
“I never ever ever thought I was going to get that phone call with bad news,” she said, adding that it took months to get over the initial shock.
“I’m ready to deal with it, and I’m going to be fine.”
56,000 People Diagnosed Annually
More than 56,000 people are diagnosed with thyroid cancer each year in the U.S., according to the National Cancer Institute. But fewer than 1,800 Americans die from the
disease each year. “Doctors say this is a good kind of cancer to have,” Burke said.
“Good cancer — that sounds so crazy! But my doctor did tell me that this is a happily-ever-after kind of thing.”
