Cory Monteith’s dad shunned from viewing

Cory Monteith’s father is said to be “devastated” after the actor’s body was cremated without his knowledge.

The beloved Glee actor passed away Saturday from a lethal dose of heroin and alcohol, according to a coroner’s report. He was 31.

Monteith’s family reportedly held a private viewing in Vancouver on Tuesday with relatives including the actor’s mother, Ann, his brother, Shaun, and girlfriend, Lea Michele.

The actor’s father, Joe Monteith, told TMZ he was not invited to the viewing and only discovered his son had been cremated after the fact.

The website reports he is “totally devastated”.

“I always loved both my sons and am going to miss Cory very very much. I’m saddened at the fact that I couldn’t have been there to see my son before he was cremated,” Joe said.

Joe Monteith is divorced from Cory’s mother.

Monteith’s body was reportedly released to her on Tuesday.

The late star was found in his Vancouver hotel room Saturday afternoon after he failed to check out on time.

Monteith had recently entered a month-long treatment programme to battle substance abuse.

The actor did not reveal when he made the announcement through a spokesperson that he had been struggling with heroin addiction.

The star’s dad said he was “shocked” about his son’s choice of drug.

Monteith found mainstream success playing Finn Hudson in US TV musical Glee when the hit show launched in 2009.

Sources say he had been struggling to deal with life in the spotlight.

“Fame was hard for him,” a purported friend told America’s People magazine.

“It was something he knew he deserved but somehow he never quite knew how to handle.”
