Colorado Victim Gave Birth as Husband Clings to Life

“No matter how bad a situation may seem there is always the chance that good may come from it.” That’s the first line of an update on CalebMedley.com announcing the birth of Hugo Jackson Medley, whose parents were in the Aurora, Colo. movie theater where last week’s shooting massacre took place.

New York Daily News- The joyous news came as Caleb, 23, remained in intensive care at the same hospital after losing his right eye and suffering some brain damage in the Friday night massacre that left 12 dead and dozens wounded.

Katie, 21, was seated next to her husband during the midnight showing of the new Batman movie but escaped the spray of bullets unharmed.

Katie gave birth to Hugo Jackson Medley Tuesday at 7:11 a.m. (MT).

The family of Katie and Caleb Medley announced “they were excited to say Hugo Jackson Medley was born at 7:11 a.m. (MT),” according to an official at the University of Colorado Denver Hospital.

“Both mom and baby doing great,” the statement said.

The couple’s friend Michael West told ABC News that the baby is “loud and full of life” — “just like his daddy.” He also told ABC that being a father was “all [Caleb] would talk about” before the attack, and said in a separate interview with CBS: “He needs to get better, because he needs to be a dad. “

The Medley family also launched a website to raise money to pay Caleb’s medical bills. www.CalebMedley.com
